Family & group Umrah

Plan around children, elders and different mobility needs, with clear room arrangements and support for every traveller.

At a glance

Start with an honest conversation about pace, privacy and support. List what makes each person’s day manageable: shorter walks, regular rest, familiar meals or help with luggage. Do not expect the youngest or fastest traveller to set the whole group’s rhythm. A simpler plan with dependable assistance can be more useful than a full itinerary.

Name a coordinator and a backup, but share responsibilities. Every adult should have the hotel address, transfer details and local contact saved offline. Travellers can follow different routines while keeping shared meals or transport as agreed meeting points. This is practical guidance, not advice on religious rulings or individual eligibility.

How to plan

Check the entire accessible route: vehicle drop-off, lobby, lift, room doorway and the walk towards the Haram. Ask about steps, crossings and wheelchair storage. An accessible label alone is not enough. Confirm where a wheelchair is obtained, who assists, and how it is returned; do not assume equipment or staff assistance is included.

Confirm bed types, actual occupancy, extra beds, bathroom arrangements and space for a wheelchair or pushchair. Connecting or adjacent rooms need written confirmation. Agree sharing preferences, privacy, quiet times and bathroom access before accepting an allocation. Quad sharing does not automatically mean a suitable family room.

Assign a responsible adult to each child for every journey and make handovers explicit. Plan toilet stops, spare clothing, familiar food and shorter outings. Ask elders how much walking and waiting they can manage. Agree how someone can return to the hotel with a companion without disrupting everyone else.

Women travelling together should agree room-sharing preferences, private changing arrangements and how to reconnect if entrances or activities separate them. Share meeting places directly with each traveller, not only one companion. For current visa and permit eligibility, consult official instructions and your authorised provider rather than assuming a group arrangement settles the rules.

Ask operators to itemise shared transfers, meals, luggage allowances and room allocations. Group discounts are not guaranteed: compare the final written offer and the services included. If travelling in Ramadan, clarify iftar and suhoor access and plan for increased demand. Keep cancellation and substitution terms with the booking confirmation.

What to pack

Label luggage and prepare a small essentials bag for each household. Keep contact details, copies of documents, charging equipment, child supplies and prescribed medication accessible. Agree who carries shared items so that everyone does not assume someone else packed them.

Check wheelchair or pushchair dimensions against transport storage and room access. Take manageable walking footwear and light layers. Review health and vaccination needs with a qualified clinician in good time, especially when a traveller requires regular medication or additional assistance.

Travel safety

Choose a clear meeting point and a backup if phones fail. Give children a simple instruction to seek identified staff if separated. Keep a guardian contact accessible without displaying unnecessary personal information. Count the group at each vehicle change and keep emergency contacts offline.

Build in shade, rest and flexibility. Smaller accompanied groups may be easier than moving everyone together through crowds. Nobody should feel pressured to keep up. Confirm assistance at every stage and check current seasonal instructions; an operator’s family label is not a certification of accessibility.
